DON'T WORRY .BE BARFI !!! :)

This week I happened to catch a new flick after eons. Not quite knowing what to expect,as I stepped into the multiplex,I fervently hoped that this movie would do some justice to the money I had shelled out and to the time forsaken by me... ( This was post me attempting to watch a disastrous movie titled JOKER at 2 am out of sheer boredom!Never ever again shall i dare to watch such a flick even if i am paid a million bucks, i swore to myself after about 20min into the movie). . My prayers were rewarded, when i was subject to an amazing movie ;easily one of the best movies of this year ; titled .. BARFI !!!

Anurag Basu's movie...titled BARFI is a Bollywood love story alright, but that's about where the similarities end between the quintessential KJO type movies and Basu's take on love .Picturised amidst the breathtakingly beautiful Darjeeling of the 70s, Barfi beautifully describes an almost silent relationship between a physically challenged man ( RANBIR as a deaf-mute) and a differently abled woman ( read an autistic child portrayed by PRIYANKA) that speaks volumes about unconditional love. The movie begins by depicting Barfi aka R.K as a penniless yet a charming and a suave boy who has his way with women around him.Despite his disability he is loved by the folks for his sheer wit and brilliant tongue in cheek antics. He is always one step ahead of the local cop ( played by Saurabh Shukla), whose entire career seems to consist of chasing Barfi. But Barfi won't be trapped, either by his disabilities or his circumstances. He ingeniously finds ways to surmount everything.
Pretty soon Barfi falls for the beautiful Shruthi ( Illeana -u beauty! )and with his impeccable charm and wit manages to create a space for him in her heart, only to be left heart-broken when she walks away with a Bengali babu who just because is normal ..is considered "Perfect " .. one thing leads to another and enter Jhilmil ( Priyanka chopra, who has essayed such a difficult role with so much precision) The story moves on to depict how these two manage to survive in the city of Kolkatta.. Their beautiful portrayal captures in essence the true definition of love. That love is something that is felt and needn't be verbose to exist...That it needn't just be between two normal beings, but that it can just as easily exist between two differently abled people as well.. After all the human heart is the same everywhere ! ! :) :) :)

Ileana looks breath takingly beautiful as a Bong bahu, and proves her talent with conviction and confidence in her Bollywood debut.
For Priyanka, there's only one word - Bravo! In a role where she needs to under-emote, she does it so brilliantly.she wears awkward frocks, buckle-shoes and is buck toothed and yet so adorable. For someone who has been in and around autistic children esp girls , i believe she has emoted almost to perfection!
For Ranbir, i have loved almost all his movies!!! He has probably given us the best performance of his career with Barfi....leaving us 'dumbstruck'.Ranbir, channeling Charlie Chaplin and Roberto Benigni and in some scenes trying to imitate Rowan Atkinson breathes life into Barfi. Without the use of conventional crutches of cool-catchphrases,flaunting of six pack abs,or yelling himself hoarse to be heard or featuring in an item number; he somehow manages to stun us in every single frame by emoting via his eyes! Never ever have i felt a gamut of emotions whilst watching any Bollywood flick , but i guess Barfi managed to evoke these in me.. not only evoke, i found myself with a tear down my cheek quite a few times!

The background score rendered by Pritam goes hand in glove with the silence in the movie; with the lyrics beautifully describing the mute -musings .It fills one with inner joy and a sense of happiness that is inexplicable!

Do go watch Barfi , if u haven't watched it yet .. As i blog this , i am made aware of the fact that Barfi is IIFA's selection to the OSCARS :)

keeping my fingers crossed on this one!!!!!!

agree wid almost everything xcept that u hav glorified priyanka.
Don't know if you know this...he has not just channeled Chaplin or Atkinson ..but the director has literally 'picked up' scenes from various movies of Chaplin and some japanese movie as well.
