LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE CHINESE BAMBOO TREE !!

Recently I happened to read  (a not so recent)  article by Rahul Dravid , wherein he spoke about THE CHINESE BAMBOO . Intrigued, I delved deep into the same and read at length about how the Chinese bamboo grows .
It is such an amazing allegory which teaches us about Patience , Persistence, Hope , Habits , Growth and Life in general ,that I felt the need to blog about it promptly !!

A GIST ON THE CHINESE BAMBOO TREE

Like any other plant , the bamboo seeds too require to be nurtured with love and care for their survival and growth. However, unlike other plants they start blooming only from the fifth year ! The first four years solely comprise of one watering it, adding fertilizers and ensuring adequate sunlight.
It shows absolutely no signs of  growth whatsoever for the first four years and all of a sudden in the fifth year it begins it's exponential growth and by exponential I mean shooting to a height of over 90ft  in just six weeks !!! Miraculous , isn't it?

Imagine the plight of the farmer sowing the seeds. He must nurture it for four years without knowing the outcome ,every single day just as delicately as the previous day , without fiddling with the soil to check if the shoots have formed roots within. Four long years of nurturing the barren soil with just the hope in his heart that the shoots shall provide for his family soon! Imagine his delight when finally in the fifth year , he spots green shoots on the soil that seemed barren for years, only to find them growing at an astonishing pace thereafter!!

 LESSONS LEARNT

Does this imply that the seeds only sprout after four long years ?
No! It was just that a solid foundation was being built below the soil which would help it in holding the 90ft tall bamboo lifelong. This solid support system ensures that it can survive in the harshest of the conditions when many others can't. The same is applicable to us humans . To ensure we survive in the harshest conditions , we need to have a strong foundation .It could be for anything ! May be for a happy relationship or for a successful career or for overcoming a failure ...

"IN EACH AND EVERY CASE THE FUNDAMENTALS MATTER . OUR SURVIVAL AND SUCCESS DEPEND ON THE DEPTH OF OUR ROOTS."

Now imagine what would have transpired had the farmer quit midway ? Would the shoots have survived ?
Definitely not. So I guess it teaches us to have a lot of patience and persevere even when the road ahead seems rough . Sometimes , ( many a times in my case! ) things don't go as planned and we tend to get frustrated , even depressed at times leading us to quit things midway for an easier route out. I guess if we wish to grow exponentially like the Chinese Bamboo we need to be persistent and work our way through !!
"HARD WORK COUPLED WITH  DEDICATION WILL ULTIMATELY PAY OFF WITH BOUNTIFUL RESULTS!"

What made the farmer stick to his routine every single day ? Habit  or Hope ?
I would say BOTH .This is another lesson I learnt . We need to have faith in oneself and keep on going despite what detractors say ! Had the farmer listened to his critics and the cynics around and stopped nurturing the plant ,wouldn't that have been disastrous ?
I guess the same is applicable to us . Many a times we get bogged down by what others think about us (applicable in numerous circumstances) and let their opinions define us . I think that's the worst harm we can inflict upon oneself.
I have learnt to plant a dream ( not the Inception kind!) and do all that is required for it to become a reality whilst CULTIVATING MY HABIT AND NURTURING MY HOPE ..

As quoted by Roy T Bennett , " You learn something valuable from all of the significant events and people , but you never touch your true potential until you challenge yourself to go beyond imposed limitations "

MAY WE ALL GROW LIKE THE CHINESE BAMBOO TREE !!!  😊😊😊

  6. No denying the fact that persistence and perseverance lay rock solid foundations for an exponential growth! Very well conveyed the lessons to be learnt here :)
